this video is documented in such way that it no longer shows any truth.
us a Taiwanese myself, i feel sad for students in your movement. understanding the fact that University students in the past had made their name for fighting for freedom in taiwan. however you guys, the so call Wild Strawberries Movement are totaly blinded.
few things i dont understand, firstly, do you guys think its cool to protest? since your protest holds no meaning what so ever in the Taiwan's future towards a better enviroment.

Secondly, do you guys understand the fact that Taiwan has been independent ALREADY ? Taiwan is not recongnize by the world besides the countries which our goverment has PAID for depolmatic recongnition. as soon as we refused to give them more money, they head to China's way.

Third, Taiwan will only benefit from closer tie to China, isolating ourselves is not the solution as you university students show study the consequences of Taiwan independence!!

lastly, to all students in Wild Strawberries movement, spend more time on learning the world, studing new skills. stop spending time on supporting a movement which is useless and represents no cause! i hate to see us young generations being mislead by stupid political views !!

Im all for the greatness of Taiwan, but division will only bring taiwan down ! LETS COME TOGETHER !

To Mike Huang,

Your post reveals how ignorant you are about the Wild Stawberries Movement.

Mike Huang:"Firstly, do you guys think its cool to protest? since your protest holds no meaning what so ever in the Taiwan's future towards a better enviroment."

How on earth did you conclude students protest for playing cool?

Mike Huang: "Secondly, do you guys understand the fact that Taiwan has been independent ALREADY ?"

Gimme a break!!! Wild Strawberries has nothing to do with independence.

Please stop commenting on something you know nothing about.

Mike Huang: "Third, Taiwan will only benefit from closer tie to China, isolating ourselves is not the solution as you university students show study the consequences of Taiwan independence!!"

It wouldn't take many brain cells for ANY CLEAR-MINDED PERSON to understand how dangerous it is to put all eggs into one single basket;

And, again, do some homework before you comment, please.

Mike Huang: "lastly, to all students in Wild Strawberries movement, spend more time on learning the world, studing new skills. stop spending time on supporting a movement which is useless and represents no cause!"

Please stop pretend to be knowledgeable by giving lessons about something you don't understand.

Taiwan has enough of people who think that they are superior enough to give lessons about something they don't know and don't even bother to learn. That's one of the sources for social injustice in Taiwan.

Mike Huang,

I think you have totally missed the point of this heartbreaking clip. I will not comment on whether or not China relations are good or bad for the country. Nor will I comment on whether de facto independence is desirable or even feasible for Taiwan. These have nothing to do with the matter at hand.

What makes this clip frightening and sad is that it shows a government that is cracking down on its citizens for doing things that are absolutely within their rights. Waving the flag of their country. Protesting for a cause. Even dancing to the tune of local music. All in the name of protecting an envoy of a foreign government - one that is still at the moment in every way hostile to us.

What would you think if the same things you see in this clip had happened during protests against Chen Shui Bian. Would you stand up and protest? Or would you think such a movement was useless and without cause. I doubt you would think the latter.

Freedom is something very precious. People fought wars for it. Don't take it for granted.

And don't be short-sighted. Just because the current government represents your views now, doesn't mean that a future government will. Just because you don't feel the need to use your rights at the moment, doesn't mean you won't need to in the future. No government, and I repeat, NO GOVERNMENT, should be allowed to take our basic rights away from us. If you allow this one to, pray, and pray hard that you never find yourself under the rule of one who opposes your views. Because then it will be you under the police baton. And then it will be too late to lament the day you let your rights slip away.
